Aymeric Laporte is poised to become Manchester City’s club record signing in a €65million (£57million) deal, but plans to say goodbye to Athletic Bilbao fans and staff first.
According to highly reliable Bilbao-based journalist Nika Cuenca, the 23-year-old intends to give a proper farewell after spending eight years at the San Mamés.

As reported earlier, Laporte is set to be left out of the Athletic side to face Eibar tonight after both he and Manchester City relayed their intentions to the Basque club about a transfer.
Unless of any late changes, Laporte will fly to Manchester on Monday to undergo a medical before signing a six-year contract with Pep Guardiola finally landing one of his long-term targets.
The La Liga club will look to move swiftly after receiving the €65million, and recent City target Iñigo Martínez, who fits Athletic Club’s ‘Basque-only’ recruitment policy, is thought to be high on the list of possible replacements for Laporte.
