Jose Alvarez Haya: Manchester City icon Sergio Aguero could return to Atletico Madrid

Sergio Aguero is being linked with an unexpected return to Atletico Madrid, according to a new report.

Spanish journalist Jose Alvarez Haya, who has become well known of late for his big exclusives on Aguero and David Silva, took to Twitter with some footage from El Chiringuito TV that claims the 29-year-old is on the agenda of Atleti.

Despite appearing on the often dubious El Chiringuito TV, the well-connected Alvarez has confirmed that this information is his own – which is highly relevant.

A return to Atletico Madrid would come as a surprise after Kun’s acrimonious exit when he moved to Manchester City in 2011. The Argentine had tried to force a move to rivals Real Madrid before instead joining City.

Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo said last year: “He (Aguero) has been the only player who left Atleti under a cloud, as he was stupid

“He arrived as a hero, and he left through the back door.”

Aguero’s long-term future still isn’t 100 per cent certain, with constant questions surrounding it even as he continues to score plenty of goals for Pep Guardiola’s side.

The arrival of Alexis Sanchez would have created more doubt, but City will move again for attacking players in the summer, and it will be interesting to see if the club’s all-time leading scorer is still around next year.

One name who could pop up in any Aguero to Atletico Madrid talk is Antoine Griezmann, the Madrid club’s French striker who has a release clause of €100million and could realistically be considered an alternative to Alexis Sanchez, who is expected to complete his move to Manchester United imminently.
