Manchester City could press ahead with plans to sign promising Lille midfielder Boubakary Soumaré in January before his price-tag skyrockets.
Alan Nixon of The Sun reports that City chief Brian Marwood flew to France during the week to watch the 18-year-old feature in Lille’s 2-1 defeat to Rennes at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy.
Though still very raw and likely a loan candidate for Girona FC or NAC Breda should City clinch a deal for him, Soumaré is considered an exciting prospect with the tools to go far in the game, and has been dubbed the ‘new Paul Pogba’ by some in the media.
City are known to have previously scouted the tall midfielder, and with Lille under considerable financial pressure it is unlikely that they could resist a good offer for the player.
Soumaré has started in only 2 of his 7 Ligue 1 appearances for this season, a sign of how far he has to go, but like so many top clubs, City are attempting to identify and recruit good young players before they become expensive commodities.
