Werder Bremen have wasted no time in shooting down a report that they are keen to sign Manchester City youngster Bersant Celina in the January transfer window.
It was reported by The Sun earlier this week that the Bundesliga side, along with Espanyol in Spain and Italian side Torino, had a serious interest in 21-year-old Celina.
Predominantly playing on the left flank, Celina has impressed at Ipswich Town since his loan switch from City, scoring 8 goals, and his form is bound to have turned some heads.
But when quizzed about the topic, Werder’s sporting director Frank Baumann responded with typical German bluntness.
“This player is not a topic for us,” he said, killing the rumour dead it would seem.
Kosovo international Celina is highly thought of at City and is on a lucrative contract for a young player, but his chances of breaking into Pep Guardiola’s first team appear slim with so much talent available.
After loan spells at FC Twente and Ipswich, Celina’s long-term future may be decided in the summer, with City facing the choice of whether to integrate him into first team plans or sell him.
