Manchester City centre-back Eliaquim Mangala is on a two-man list Juventus have created should their pursuit of Atlético Madrid’s José Giménez end in failure.
The Old Lady hope to sign 22-year-old Giménez from the La Liga club for less than his €60million release clause, with their intention being to acquire him for €35-€40million.
Should Atlético reject Juve’s approach though, Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport reports that the Old Lady have two names in mind as alternatives: Mangala and Valencia’s Ezequiel Garay.
Garay and Mangala played together at Valencia in the 2016-17 season, forming a solid partnership, and would undoubtedly be cheaper options for the pragmatic Serie A giants.
Despite earning more game time due to injuries suffered by Vincent Kompany and John Stones, Mangala isn’t likely to remain at the Etihad Stadium for much longer as City look to add one, possibly two new centre-backs in the next six months.
West Brom skipper Jonny Evans has again been linked with a move to City in January, and any deal would all but put an end to Mangala’s disappointing spell in Manchester, effectively demoting him to fifth choice when Kompany was available.
