Going into this weekend’s big Premier League encounter, Liverpool vs Manchester City betting odds have Pep Guardiola’s side as slight favourites at 13/10, but if they are to break their Anfield hoodoo, they’ll have to do it without captain Vincent Kompany.
The Blues haven’t won away at Liverpool since Nicolas Anelka’s last minute winner all the way back in 2003, and any hopes the Blues had of emerging victorious on Sunday took a dent with the news that Kompany hasn’t recovered from injury in time for the fixture.
The centre-half has had more than his fair share of injury problems over the last few years, with this latest one coming just four minutes into City’s victory over Newcastle at the end of last month.
Regardless, Nicolas Otamendi and John Stones have formed a solid partnership this season, and while the latter has looked rusty since returning from a hamstring injury, Guardiola will have faith that they will be able to keep the likes of Mohammed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mané quiet.
In other team news, David Silva is available for City despite his ongoing off the pitch problems. It was revealed last week that the Spaniard’s partner had given birth to their son Mateo after just 23 weeks of her pregnancy.
Meanwhile, Alexis Sanchez has been the subject of plenty of discussion over the past seven days, with some City fans wishfully thinking that he would be available for selection against Liverpool. Now, it looks like city rivals Manchester United may be in pole position to snatch the striker away from Guardiola’s clutches.
