Maks Cárdenas‏: City refuse to raise their bid for Alexis Sanchez, United have made bigger offer

After his appearance on the City Watch Podcast this morning, Chilean journalist Maks Cárdenas has taken to Twitter with an update on the ever-changing Alexis Sanchez transfer saga.

And it appears that City fans may finally have some reason to worry, with Maks saying Alexis to City is ‘frozen’ at the moment – suggesting there is no progress being made.

Elaborating, Maks posted six points, starting with the obvious: Arsenal will only sell Sanchez if they find a replacement, with Bordeaux’s Malcom thought to be their primary target now.

However, City are refusing to raise their offer, reported to be around £20million, for Sanchez, who is out of contract in June. And that has given rivals Manchester United some encouragement, with Jose Mourinho entering the fray and, according to Maks, making a financially superior offer.

With Gabriel Jesus due back in the next two to three weeks, there is no urgency at City to splash out on Alexis, but the prospect of losing one of Pep Guardiola’s primary targets to City’s bitter rivals is a cause for long-term concern.

Complicating things even more is Alexis’ agent, Fernando Felicevich, asking for a very big contract and bonus for his client.

As we approach the halfway point of the January transfer window, we’re still none the wiser on if Alexis Sanchez will rock up at the Etihad Stadium this month, but things are not going as smoothly as might have been expected a week or two ago.
