Di Marzio: Manchester United join Manchester City in battle to sign Alexis Sanchez

Manchester City have unexpectedly made a bid to snatch Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez from Manchester City, Gianluca Di Marzio of Sky Italia reports this afternoon.

Di Marzio says that in the ‘last hour’, United chiefs have contacted Arsenal to explore signing the 29-year-old, who has seemed almost certain to move to the Etihad. Furthermore, Henrikh Mkhitaryan has been offered to Arsenal as a makeweight in the deal.

Alexis rejected interest from PSG and Bayern Munich in the summer, such was his determination to link up with Pep Guardiola again, this time at Manchester City.

Di Marzio’s news has also been backed up by Ed Aarons of The Guardian who says a £25m bid has arrived from the Reds.

Chilean journalist Maks Cárdenas says United and Liverpool have asked about Sanchez, but his mind is already made up…

Can Jose Mourinho convince Alexis to snub City and instead join the red half of Manchester? Contacts have been made and now we await further developments…
