Manchester City have sent Nigerian midfielder Chidiebere Nwakali on loan to Scottish Premiership side Aberdeen for the second half of the season.
The 21-year-old was part of the same FIFA U17 World Cup winning side as compatriot Kelechi Iheanacho in 2013, and the two were signed at a similar time, with Kelechi now playing for Leicester.
Few would have expected Nwakali, who has been through the loan system since 2015, to outlast Iheanacho at the Etihad, but he has after signing a new one-year contract extension last summer.
He arrives at a club in second behind only Celtic in Scotland and boss Derek McInnes has revealed that City want him to get experience.
“Manchester City have been very keen for Chidi to get some competitive game time and it’s a deal we’ve been working on for a couple of months now, so I am delighted to welcome Chidi to the club.
“I’m sure he will be a positive addition to our squad.”
Nwakali has previously been on loan at Atlético Malagueño, Girona FC, IK Start and Sogndal Fotball.
