Manchester City could be put off any potential move for Real Sociedad centre-back Iñigo Martínez this month after the Basque club announced that he will miss an undetermined amount of time with a muscle injury in his left leg.

The 26-year-old has been one of the most commonly linked centre-backs of recent weeks, along with West Brom skipper Jonny Evans, who City remain keen on but face competition for from Arsenal.
It could be a case of bullet dodged for City, as despite his talents, Martínez is proving to be very injury prone this season. This may well be the third injury of the season that keeps him out for 20-plus days, and he has missed 7 of Real Sociedad’s 18 La Liga games through injury – with more now to follow, including the club’s big game against Barcelona on Sunday.
Martínez has an affordable release clause of just over £28million and despite his injury, could remain an option – but with Vincent Kompany’s chronic injury problems, the Spain international’s tendency to pick up injuries may cause Pep Guardiola to think twice.
