Manchester City have made a fresh bid of £20million for Arsenal superstar Alexis Sanchez, according to a report by Fabrizio Romano and Ed Aarons of The Guardian.
City have agreed personal terms with Alexis, which the story claims are worth around £250,000-a-week, and have followed that up with a bid that reflects the 29-year-old’s contract situation.
Alexis is out of contract in June and likely to end up at the Etihad Stadium one way or another – but the injury to Gabriel Jesus has led to an approach being made this month.
Interestingly, it is reported that City have insisted this will be their maximum bid for a player they could take for nothing come the summer.
The addition of Alexis would help Pep Guardiola as he pushes for an unprecedented quadruple, but Blues chiefs seem determined not to pay over the odds and will wait until the end of the season if Arsenal turn down their new offer.
There have been reports that the dressing room atmosphere surrounding Sanchez has deteriorated of late, with the player desperate to leave, and City’s hardline stance on what they’re willing to cough up may be linked to that.
