Manchester City are getting closer to signing Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal if recent reports are to be believed. Of course, we heard the same last summer only for a transfer to famously collapse on deadline day.
However, it’s clear that Arsenal have an interest in selling the 28-year-old this month, to avoid missing out on a transfer fee next summer. With the money they receive, they could invest in a replacement, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang among the names mentioned.
According to Chilean journalist Maks Cárdenas, City want to give the Gunners cash – and only cash. They have ruled out including any players, after Arsenal expressed an interest in taking Raheem Sterling last summer – a move Pep Guardiola said was never possible, and in hindsight, it was a great decision.
City have also asked Arsenal to do a deal with them quickly, not after they have found a replacement. Arsenal’s failed pursuit of Thomas Lemar in the summer is what led to Alexis’ move to the Etihad falling through, something that reportedly upset the Chile international. And City will want to avoid a repeat of that.
UPDATE: Manchester City does not want to involve players in the negotiation by Alexis, only 💰 . And ask Arsenal not to wait for Alexis' replacement to close the deal.

Several fees have been mooted for the deal, ranging from £15million to £40million. City are willing to spend big for a player out of contract in a matter of months, but it appears that they have set a limit and are unlikely to shell out as much as £40million.
Spanish journalist Jose Alvarez Haya has chimed in, suggesting there is still £10million between the clubs.
Manchester City wants Alexis for this January. Now is the priority. The last bid is around 25 million pounds. But Arsenal wants 10 million more. The test of Gabriel Jesus knee will be determinant.

Is it now just a matter of days until we see Alexis Sanchez in sky blue? This long-running saga could be about to come to an end… otherwise we can expect one of the biggest free transfers in recent years come June.
