Manchester City are closing in on the belated signing of Arsenal superstar Alexis Sanchez, Chilean journalist Maks Cárdenas claimed this evening.
The 28-year-old was excluded from Arsenal’s FA Cup squad to face Nottingham Forest today, and while it could have simply have been to give him a rest ahead of Arsenal’s Carabao Cup semi-final clash with Chelsea, Cárdenas reports that it was to ensure he isn’t cup-tied in the FA Cup for when he swaps the Emirates for the Etihad.
Cárdenas says the main sticking point is a fee, with City offering £20million for a player out of contract in June and Arsenal requesting £35million. It is possible that a compromise could be reached.
Arsenal out of the FA. @Alexis_Sanchez did not play so he will not be cup tied.

City had been willing to bide their time and snap up Alexis on a free transfer in the summer, but an injury of one month-plus to Gabriel Jesus has changed their thinking and it appears they are now trying to bring him in this month.
Should a deal be done, Alexis will be eligible to play in the Champions League knockout stage for Manchester City, with clubs allowed to add one player who has competed in the Europa League to their squads.
