Manchester City are a global brand these days and unlike in past generations, many young footballers across the world are growing up dreaming of playing for a side like Pep Guardiola’s.
One young player who aspires to step out on to the Etihad Stadium pitch in the sky blue is Portugal under-21 international Gil Dias, who is on a two-year loan at Fiorentina from Monaco, with the Italian side having an option to buy him.
Speaking to Portuguese newspaper O Jogo, the 21-year-old said: “Fiorentina loaned me for two seasons and my goal is to be bought outright, even if it ultimately depends on them. I’ll continue to work hard.
“My dream? The Premier League. I would like to play for Manchester City, although there are many strong teams.”
Dias, a right-sided attacking midfielder/winger, has made 13 appearances in Serie A for La Viola this season, 5 of them them starts, and has scored 1 goal while contributing 2 assists.
Could he one day end up at Manchester City? He has a long way to go to reach that level, but is an example of how it isn’t just the red side that young players aspire to play for nowadays.
