The tall midfielder, a Dutch under-20 international, has made 21 appearances for Doncaster in the third tier of English football, starting in 12 of those games, and is picking up vital experience in the senior game.
Kongolo also made a good impression when he lined up against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup, playing the full 90 minutes against Premier League opposition in a narrow 1-0 defeat at the Emirates.
The 19-year-old, whose brother Terence has just arrived in England on loan at Huddersfield from Monaco, will return to City at the end of the season after his spell under the tutelage of Darren Ferguson, son of Sir Alex Ferguson.
