With Gabriel Jesus injured for at least a month, the first thought of many fans is will this accelerate Manchester City’s pursuit of Alexis Sanchez again?
Despite the 28-year-old trying to force through his desired move from Arsenal to City, the Blues have been content to wait until summer and grab him on a free transfer.
Sanchez may be in luck now, with Aguero not looking at his best and Jesus out, limiting City’s famed firepower to a degree. Arsenal have been reported to be open to selling the Chilean because of a ‘bitter’ dressing room atmosphere surrounding him.
However, speaking after City’s 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace today, Pep Guardiola was very guarded and even suggested that he believes Alexis will remain at Arsenal until the end of the season – at which point he becomes the hottest free agent on the market.
“I don’t know. He is a player for Arsenal and I think he is going to stay there,” Pep told the assembled press after the game.
Asked later on about transfers and Alexis again, Pep remarked: “We will have internal meetings and see what is for the best, but he is an Arsenal player and I think he will be.”
The transfer window opens in just nine hours and it will be interesting to see how City operate during it. 14 points clear at the top, but fresh injury concerns and still being in four competitions – including the Champions League – could see them bolster the squad some more.
