Manchester City fans are in wonderland right now after the Blues created a 15 point gap between themselves and neighbours Manchester United with a win over Newcastle on Wednesday night.
After United slipped up against Burnley, rescuing a draw in the dying moments, City had the chance to extend their lead at St. James’ Park and took it, winning 1-0 thanks to a Raheem Sterling strike.
And so the gap reached 15, the biggest in any European league – remarkable considering the Premier League is reputed to be the most competitive.
City fans have made sure United fans know about the gap, with a new song that goes “Mind the gap Man United… getting bigger every time we play.”
Hopefully this one won’t come back to haunt us, but City can now afford to lose FIVE games that United would have to catch up on with wins. It will take an unprecedented bottle job for City to blow this from here and it doesn’t seem likely under the stewardship of the relentless Pep Guardiola.
