His aborted loan spell at Girona FC cast doubts about his prospects of breaking through at Manchester City, but young left-back Angeliño is making a huge impression at NAC Breda this season.
The 20-year-old Spaniard both scored and contributed an assist at the weekend at NAC picked up a crucial win over FC Utrecht to move them out of the Eredivisie relegation zone.
His performance has won him a spot in Opta’s Eredivisie Team of the Week. According to NAC fan site B-Side Rats, NAC’s game has revolved heavily around Angeliño in recent months and he had more touches of the ball (77) than any other player on the pitch on Saturday.
Some NAC fans at B-Side Rats have had some very positive words about the Man City loanee.
One fan wrote, “Out of our league this boy. Angeliño is too good even for Ajax and PSV. He is good enough in terms of technique to play in the Premier League.”
Lejad said, “Perhaps the best player I have seen in my 11 years of going to watch NAC. We are lucky that Man City let us have this talent for a year. It was a great moment when the entire stadium sung for him after the match.”
And Bertus1912 predicts big things for the youngster, commenting, “Absolute class! Next year he will be in Pep’s squad.”
Could Angeliño play a part in Guardiola’s plans next season? Benjamin Mendy is undoubtedly the chosen one at left-back, and Fabian Delph’s superb form after converting to the role will make things harder for Angeliño, but rather than sign a second specialist left-back, perhaps Pep will look in-house at Angeliño.
