Ederson named in UEFA Champions League breakthrough team of 2017

Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson has been named in UEFA’s Champions League breakthrough team of 2017 after a stunning start to life at the Etihad Stadium.

The 24-year-old, who also impressed for Benfica in the Champions League this calendar year, has looked to be worth every penny of his £34.9m transfer fee, commanding his box and showing some of the best distribution skills ever seen by a goalkeeper.

With Ederson usually between the sticks, City have conceded only 12 goals in 19 Premier League games, and 5 in 6 Champions League group stage games.

And his performances have been recognised by UEFA, who have selected the Brazil international in their breakthrough XI, which features only one Manchester City player.
