The dates for Manchester City’s Carabao Cup semi-final games against Bristol City were today announced, with both taking place on Tuesday nights in January.
Bristol City will travel to the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday 9 January for the first leg, while the return fixture at Ashton Gate has been scheduled for Tuesday 23 January. Both games will kick off at 7.45pm and be shown on Sky Sports.
City could play as many as NINE games in January, although eight seems more realistic. Nine would mean drawing with Burnley in the FA Cup third round, winning a replay, then playing in the FA Cup fourth round later that month.
The bonus for City is that five of their definite seven fixtures will be held at the Etihad Stadium, which Pep Guardiola’s side have again made a fortress in recent months after some wobbles last season.
The fixture schedule for the New Year currently looks like this:
January 2 – Watford H
January 6 – Burnley H (FA Cup)
January 9 – Bristol City H (Carabao Cup)
January 14 – Liverpool A
January 20 – Newcastle H
January 23 – Bristol City A (Carabao Cup)
January 27/28 – FA Cup 4th round weekend
January 31 – West Brom H
A nightmare for the Blues would be Burnley getting a replay in the FA Cup, forcing another fixture into an already hectic period. With the added grind of two Carabao Cup games, Guardiola will have to rotate his squad to perfection, a task that will be assisted by the return of John Stones and, hopefully, Vincent Kompany.
