City Summary – December 21: City target Van Dijk and Sanchez, Weigl being considered, Fernandinho renews

Catch up on all of today’s Manchester City news with our City Summary!

In what seems to have been some sort of briefing to the press – with pretty much everyone reporting it – City have identified Virgil van Dijk as a major target, while Alexis Sanchez is still wanted but any deal for him may wait until summer.

The other player City are looking to sign is a Yaya Touré replacement and one of the names under consideration is Borussia Dortmund midfielder Julian Weigl.

Fernandinho has ALREADY signed a new contract, according to Goal journalist Sam Lee, with an announcement due in the coming weeks.

Mario Balotelli says he would return to City… and play for free! That is how fondly he remembers his time in Manchester.

Dates for the Carabao Cup semi-final games against Bristol City have been announced, and it’s going to be a busy January. On the plus side, most of City’s games next month are at home.

The FA has taken no further action against either Manchester club after the much talked about post-derby brawl in the tunnel. No use crying over spilled milk.

City had their Christmas party on Wednesday night and Benjamin Mendy (who else) shared a photo of a group of City players enjoying the night together.

City along with Arsenal are keeping an eye on Burnley defender James Tarkowski, a standout performer in Sean Dyche’s resolute side.

Could Brahim Diaz abandon a possible long-term future with Spain to represent Morocco at this year’s World Cup?

Gary Neville believes City’s ‘over-celebrating’ is a sign of their team spirit.

Xavi and Pep – a neverending love story. The famous midfielder has had more nice words about Pep and his City side.

Speaking of Pep, could he be in trouble for his part in the so-called Catalan ‘rebellion’? It is being suggested in Spain, but a legal source told ESPN that any action is unlikely.
