Barcelona legend Xavi Hernández says the world is “smitten” by the beautiful style of football being shown by Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City each week.
The 37-year-old often speaks highly of his former Barça coach, and in an interview with Radio Catalunya continued that trend with some eloquent words about his fellow Catalan – and the team he leads.
“Manchester City are the most in-form side in Europe. Pep found the formula for how he wanted to play. It’s an obsession with his ideas, very methodical, and the players are doing well.
“The players touch the ball between 70 and 90 times. They will all tell you now that they are really enjoying themselves. The whole world is smitten.
“His DNA is that of Barça. He is brilliant, unique, an esteemed coach. He can get his message across, he has personality.”
City have yet to lose a Premier League game in the 2017-18 season and that has while been playing an adventurous, eye-catching brand of football, rather than cautious tactics often used by fellow big spending clubs such as neighbours Manchester United.
