Jesús Medina heading to New York City FC ahead of potential Man City move – father

The City Football Group will today close a deal to sign highly-rated Paraguyan midfielder Jesús Medina in a US$4million deal from Club Libertad, ABC Deportes reports.

News of this deal first emerged on Sunday courtesy of renowned Argentine journalist César Luis Merlo, and is now being reported by various sources – plus his father!

The CFG will reportedly acquire 80% of the 20-year-old’s sporting rights, and the player, described as one of South America’s most exciting young talents by Spanish newspaper AS, will spend a year at New York City FC.

His father Francisco Medina told ABC Cardinal: “The MLS has grown a lot. He will go to New York City for a year, then he will see if Manchester City takes him.

“The United States club has had several good players such as Andrea Pirlo. I understand the president of City is handling it.”

Medina, an attacking midfielder/winger, won his first cap for Paraguay in July, appearing in a friendly against Mexico.
