Manchester City continue to look at left-backs as they consider adding depth to the position in January, with Augsburg’s impressive Philipp Max watched on Saturday.
According to today’s edition of the Mail on Sunday, a delegation of Man City scouts were at the Augsburg Arena yesterday as the hosts drew 3-3 with Freiburg in a Bundesliga fixture.
Their eyes were on 24-year-old Max, who has an incredible 10 assists in 17 league appearances for Augsburg this season, including contributions against Borussia Dortmund and his former club Schalke.
Max, a silver medalist with Germany at the 2016 Olympics, has also been watched by the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea, Tottenham and Everton recently, and now City can be added to the list of Premier League clubs keen on him.
Fabian Delph continues to perform well at left-back, but with Benjamin Mendy sidelined for much of the season, there may be a temptation to recruit a specialist left-back in January.
Besides Max, Spain under-21 international Aarón Martín of Espanyol is still thought to be of interest, with his club willing to cash in for just €20million.
It is unclear how much Max would command in the transfer market, but like Aarón Martín it is unlikely a buying club would have to break the bank for a player tipped to win a Germany call-up soon.
