Manchester City are, for the first time ever, the outright favourites to win the Champions League after bookmakers slashed odds on Pep Guardiola’s side to lift Europe’s most prestigious trophy at the end of the season.
City’s draw to face Swiss side FC Basel saw their odds cut from 9/2 to 11/4 at bookies such as Sky Bet, putting them ahead of the likes of Paris St Germain (who face Real Madrid in the next round), Barcelona and Bayern Munich in the odds.
City’s round of 16 opponents Basel are the outside shot to win the trophy at a massive 250/1. Txiki Begiristain said City must respect the Swiss side, but will quietly be satisfied with today’s draw outcome.
