Manchester City and Liverpool are extensively scouting Nice and Ivory Coast midfielder Jean Michaël Seri, who came close to joining Barcelona in the summer, the Daily Mail reports today.
26-year-old Seri is one of Ligue 1’s most impressive performers and is open to a Premier League move after Nice rejected a £35.2million bid from Barcelona in August.
Scouts from the Etihad and Anfield have been monitoring pass master Seri all season and will continue to keep a watching brief ahead of possible bids next month or in the summer.
Paris Saint-Germain could yet enter the fray, while Arsenal were also credited with an interest in Seri, an international teammate of Yaya Touré and current club teammate of Mario Balotelli, but didn’t follow up with a formal bid.
The Ivorian is the latest in a string of midfielders to be linked with a move to the Etihad, with Touré leaving the club in the summer and, despite his excellent form, Fernandinho getting no younger.
Seri has completed 91.3% of his passes across Ligue 1 and the Europa League this season, his ability with the ball one of the reasons he is likely to appeal to Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp.
