Pep Guardiola will not allow his Manchester City players to rest on their laurels tomorrow night when they face Shakhtar Donetsk, despite having already won the group and qualified.
Having taken his entire available squad, besides the suspended Kevin De Bruyne and injured David Silva, it isn’t clear just how strong of a starting eleven the City boss will field.
However, according to Sky Italia the Catalan has sent an SMS message to Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri, promising him that City will give their ‘maximum effort’ to beat Shakhtar and make it six wins out of six in Group F.
The two tactical masterminds have a very good relationship and spoke highly of each other before and after City and Napoli’s Champions League showcases – both of them won by the English club.
And their mutual respect could lead to Sarri being handed a favour by Pep, with Napoli desperately needing City to win to have any chance of advancing to the next stage of the Champions League.
The Italians must also make sure they beat Group F basement boys Feyenoord, who have nothing left to play for, but showed against City at the Etihad recently that they can be challenging opponents.
