They could have him for nothing, zero, zilch come June, but according to a report today, Manchester City are ready to go back for Alexis Sanchez in January – and will pay big to get him.
Miguel Delaney of The Independent claims that sources within City feel that with the addition of Alexis, the Blues can push for a Premier League and Champions League double this season, explaining the urgency to bring in the 28-year-old.
Arsene Wenger remains consistent in saying that Arsenal do not want to sell the Chilean, who could be key to their hopes of finishing in the top four and winning the Europa League – which would book them passage to next season’s Champions League if they do miss out on the top four.
However, the Gunners showed in the summer that they would do business with City, only reneging on an agreement to sell him once a deal to sign Thomas Lemar from Monaco fell through.
The new report claims that Arsenal would expect over £50million in January for Alexis, an enormous fee considering he will be a free agent in June.
But if Pep Guardiola believes Sanchez can add the depth and quality to add multiple trophies to City’s cabinet this season, he may feel like it is money well spent.
