It looks like Jose Mourinho’s Machiavellian mindset is filtering down to his players, with £90million midfielder Paul Pogba making a shocking admission.
Speaking to BBC Football Focus, the 24-year-old said about league leaders Manchester City: “Some day I hope they are going to slip and I hope, and I know that it’s bad to say things like that, but I hope for us that some very important players get injured.
“Just like what is happening with us because every time we are having important players that get injured and missing important games.
“If that happens to them as well then maybe it will make a difference. It might be a little touch that makes them weaker.”
Such a classless remark is rare from a top-flight professional and perhaps shows the desperation at United for the Premier League’s great entertainers, Man City, to start dropping points.
United face a challenging away fixture at Arsenal later today, while City host West Ham tomorrow and then, after midweek Champions League commitments, City and United will meet next weekend for the first time this season.
