Sterling does it again while KDB brings the creativity: Man City Player Ratings vs. Southampton

Manchester City struck late again to beat Southampton at the Etihad. Here’s how we rated the players…

Ederson – 7

Provided an assured and imposing presence at the back for City and didn’t put a foot wrong all night.

Kyle Walker – 6

Still yet to have a bad game for City, Walker was solid up and down the right but didn’t influence the game quite as much as he has in the past.

Vincent Kompany – 6

Alternated between looking rusty and world-class but is clearly getting back up to speed with the team. If his legs hold out, we’ll be just fine.

Nicolas Otamendi – 7

A good night for Otamendi, who I’m a big fan of. The General marshalled his defence well and his distribution is improving at an impressive rate. Played a part in De Bruyne’s goal.

Fabian Delph – 6

Had one of his more adventurous games at left-back for City, overlapping several times, but was ultimately ineffective. Had to do better against Boufal for the equaliser.

Fernandinho – 6

An unspectacular but solid outing for the reliable Brazilian. His willingness to put his body on the line continues to impress.

Kevin De Bruyne – 8

Looked City’s most creative player on the night and tested Forster with several long-range strikes before and after his lovely free-kick, touched in by Van Dijk, was credited as his goal. Also got an assist for the winner.

Ilkay Gundogan – 6

An ineffective day for the German, who looks low on match sharpness.

Raheem Sterling – 10 (Man of the Match)

Sealed the win for us late on… again. But this might be the best goal Sterling’s ever scored for City,a beautiful curler from outside the box. He saved us, plain and simple.

Gabriel Jesus – 6

Good but not great, and it must be taken into account that he was spending much of his time on the left and not up front.

Sergio Aguero – 6

Like nearly everyone else, Sergio had a quiet night. The Argentine, to his credit, got involved in the build-up but couldn’t find his usual lethal finish.

Subs:

David Silva – 6

Did what he could to inject some creativity but didn’t manage to get too involved.

Bernardo Silva – N/A

No real time to mark.
