An incredible year for Manchester City wonderkid Phil Foden could yet get better with the 17-year-old making a 10-athlete shortlist for the prestigious BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year award.
Foden, who inspired England to U17 World Cup glory in India, was also handed his Man City first team debut during the week against Feyenoord and is considered one of Europe’s most promising teenagers.
And his achievements this year have been recognised by his nomination, which sees him joined by fellow World Cup winner Rhian Brewster of Liverpool and another young Kopite, Ben Woodburn, who scored on his international debut for Wales against Austria.
The top three contenders will be announced on Blue Peter on 7 December, and the winner will be presented with the trophy during the Sports Personality show from Liverpool on BBC One on 17 December.
Foden was back in action for City’s under-23 side today, scoring a great goal against Tottenham.
What a cracker from @PhilFoden 👏 His curled shot smashed into the top of the net from a tight angle!
