Manchester City have been named as one of three clubs to have had contacts about a potential loan deal for unsettled PSG midfielder Julian Draxler in January, L’Equipe reports.
Arsenal and Liverpool, two Premier League clubs frequently linked with the 24-year-old Germany star, are the others mentioned, but the inclusion of City is something new in the rumour mill.
Draxler only joined the Parisiens from Wolfsburg 13 months ago, but often finds himself out of the starting eleven, particularly since the club invested in Neymar and Kylian Mbappé during the summer, limiting his chances in the attacking positions.
The German’s versatility means he can play in several roles, but L’Equipe states that the return of Thiago Motta in January could reduce Draxler’s chances even more, opening up the possibility of him leaving on loan.
And with the World Cup approaching, Draxler may push for a move away, even a temporary loan deal, and that has piqued the interest of English clubs. The French newspaper claims there have already been exchanges with several English giants, naming Man City, Liverpool and Arsenal.
Pep Guardiola may look to reinforce his squad in January, particularly if City are still in the Carabao Cup in the New Year, which would mean they remain in four competitions. Draxler’s ability to play left, right or centre could be put to good use, though he may favour a switch to Arsenal or Liverpool where there is less quality in depth in the attacking positions.
