Lyon are fighting to hold on to one of French football’s biggest hopes, Willem Geubbels, with RMC Sport reporting that both Manchester City and Bayern Munich have made ‘very big offers’ to the 16-year-old.
A versatile young attacker capable of playing on the wings or as a forward, Geubbels has scored 2 goals in 7 appearances for France under-18s and already made his Ligue 1 debut for Lyon, appearing for 6 minutes against Dijon back in September.
Club president Jean-Michel Aulas is relaxed about the interest of two super-powers like City and Bayern Munich though, and explained to Breaking Foot on SFR Sport 1 how he intends to keep hold of his young gem.
“Because he is a minor, we’re talking with his mum and dad, but also trying to connect his relations directly to our coach (Bruno Génésio), to see how we can integrate him into the team.
“He is already training with the first team and we want to give him the opportunity to play in some games.”
Lyon had almost lost another of their academy starlets, Houssem Aouar, to Liverpool, previously, but convinced him to stay and he is now getting first team minutes regularly at the age of 19. And they are hoping they can do likewise to keep Willem Geubbels out of the clutches of Manchester City and Bayern Munich.
