Pep’s Presser: Delph and Sterling injury updates, a hint about Kompany, Foden’s future

The Premier League is back this weekend and for Manchester City a potential banana skin awaits with a trip to in-form Leicester City, who are now under the tutelage of Claude Puel.

Pep Guardiola addressed the media at the CFA this afternoon as he looks to guide his #SharkTeam to a sixteenth win on the trot.

The good news is that Sergio Aguero is in “perfect” knick and available to face Leicester after his scare during the international break.

“Aguero arrived two days ago and he the doctor says he’s perfect,” Pep conformed. “He was conscious all the time in Argentina and he’s OK. Nothing to be worried about.”

The manager didn’t have such good news about Fabian Delph, who is a doubt for tomorrow.

“I don’t know if Delph will able to play because in four sessions he trained two. Hopefully we can recover him because he is so important.”

Raheem Sterling, like Delph, was withdrawn from England duty with an injury, but he is a possibility to face The Foxes tomorrow.

“Raz played the last two games with pain in his back and made a huge effort to play but he is much, much better and hopefully he can play.”

Nicolas Otamendi is also absent tomorrow but because of suspension, not injury. And while naming his options for the position, Pep hinted that Vincent Kompany could make a long-awaited return from injury.

“Yeah, I have something in mind to replace Otamendi. We have Mangala, maybe Kompany can come back. Kyle can play there.”

When asked about wonderkid Phil Foden, Guardiola reiterated that the 17-year-old is part of his plans and will not be loaned out in January.

“Foden was the best player at the U-17 World Cup,” Pep told reporters. “He is involved with us, training with us. He won’t move this season, no loan in January because we feel we need him and he is going to play.

“We feel he has the skills needed and hopefully he can help us.”
