Manchester City have contacted the representatives of Atletico Madrid superstar Antoine Griezmann, joining the list of major clubs to register an interest in the forward, according to SPORT.
The 26-year-old has a €100million (£89million) release clause at the Madrid club, which in today’s market seems reasonable, and there is a good chance that he will end a four-year stint at Atleti next summer.
Griezmann came close to joining Manchester United in the last transfer window, and Jose Mourinho remains keen to sign him, but could face competition from not only City, but also Barcelona and Bayern Munich, who have also reportedly been in touch with the player’s entourage.
It is claimed by SPORT, which is a pro-Barcelona newspaper, that Griezmann fancies a move to the Camp Nou to play alongside Lionel Messi, but the story is that Barça will only move for the forward if they fail to sign Philippe Coutinho from Liverpool.
The extent of Man City’s interest isn’t revealed, with the forward position not one in urgent need of reinforcements as long as Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus keep delivering, with goalscoring support from the likes of Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sané.
Additionally, there remains a strong possibility that Alexis Sanchez will join City from Arsenal either for a cut-price fee in January or on a free transfer in the summer, which would surely mean no space for a signing of Griezmann’s profile.
