Sergio Agüero has been criticised for a long time for not performing in the colours of Argentina to the same standard that he does for Manchester City. However, with Pep Guardiola’s coaching, the 29-year-old has become a more complete player and it is now benefiting Argentina.
The City icon made it two goals in as many games in the international break in the first half of Argentina’s friendly against Nigeria today, finishing off a precise cross from Boca Juniors attacker Cristian Pavón. That made it 2-0 to Argentina, before Agüero’s former teammate, Kelechi Iheanacho, pulled one back on the stroke of half-time.
Kun also found the net against Russia on Saturday, his goal handing La Albiceleste a 1-0 win over the hosts.
His finish today put him clear of Hernan Crespo as Argentina’s third all-time leading goalscorer on 36, still 18 behind second-placed Gabriel Batistuta.
