Spain trained in the icy wind of St Petersburg on Monday without the influential David Silva, raising concerns that the Manchester City playmaker could be suffering from an injury.
The good news is that Silva wasn’t completely absent, working separately on the sidelines at the Petrovski Stadium, suggesting that whatever he is ailing from isn’t too serious.
The 31-year-old was outstanding again in Spain’s win over Costa Rica on Saturday, scoring two goals in the 5-0 thrashing and taking his tally to 35 for his country.
He is now likely to miss Spain’s friendly with Russia later today, and the hope will be that he is available when Man City visit Leicester City this weekend when the Premier League resumes.
The City midfielder was honoured back in England last night by being named Player of the Year at the NW Football Awards.
