Manchester City will take young defender Pablo Maffeo on their pre-season tour next summer before integrating him into the first team squad, according to a report by The Sun.
And according to The Sun, this has not gone unnoticed by Etihad scouts, who are impressed by his development and expect him to be part of Pep Guardiola’s plans next season.
If true, it raises questions as to where Maffeo or Danilo will play – retaining both of them, along with Kyle Walker, would mean three natural right-backs in the squad. However, both Danilo and Maffeo are versatile players able to cover in other positions, something Pep may have in mind.
Of the five loanees at sister club Girona, only Maffeo has been a major success so far, dealing with their step up to La Liga effortlessly. He has made 10 starts in Spain’s top flight for the Catalan club, recently assisting a goal in their famous 2-1 win over Real Madrid.
Pablo joined Manchester City in the summer of 2013, and worked his way up the youth ranks. He made 3 appearances for Guardiola’s City last season, including in the Champions League against Steaua București and the EFL Cup against neighbours Manchester United.
