Sergio Aguero has had plenty to say during an interview with TyC Sports in his native Argentina. We’ve already reported his comments on plans to return to Independiente and the ongoing confusion about when his contract actually ends.
The Manchester City icon also spoke about his recent car accident and subsequent rib injury, as well as breaking a long-standing record to become City’s all-time record goalscorer again Napoli.
Aguero’s car crash in Amsterdam could have been so much worse, but while it caused him to miss two internationals with Argentina, he was back in action fairly quickly for Man City.
Even so, it caused him some mental trauma…
“We took a cab at the hotel, and five minutes later, the driver was doing this weird maneuver,” Aguero said. “I was with a friend and said to him, ‘I’ll fasten my seat belt just in case’. But I just couldn’t do it since it was sort of hidden.
“It was too tight, and I think that was the reason why I had my rib injured. I knew I had something going on because it hurt quite badly. I asked the doctor, ‘Can I get there by Saturday?’ And he did this funny face. I asked him, ‘Would it be next week?’ And he denied it. That’s when I said, ‘I want to kill myself.'”
On a more positive note, Aguero spoke about how happy he is to be City’s greatest goalscorer, but is surprised at how fast he reached the landmark.
“I never thought I’d reach that record so quickly. Ever since I went to play for Manchester City, we won the Premier League in my first year and I said to myself, ‘I hope we can grow on this.’
“And then, I started to score, score, score.
“You need over ten years to get such a record, and I only have played for six years and three months [with City] and I’m very happy for doing it in such a short amount of time.”
Argentina meet Russia on Saturday and Nigeria next Tuesday, with Sergio expected to play a part in both games for Jorge Sampaoli’s side.
