Lyon are ready to revive their interest in seldom used Manchester City defender Eliaquim Mangala in the January transfer window and that could give City an opening to sign a target of their own.
According to Martin Blackburn of The Sun, City could use Lyon’s interest in Mangala to sign highly-rated young centre-back Mouctar Diakhaby, who was previously linked with a move to the Etihad in October.
Diakhaby is a towering figure at over 6’3″ tall but with the height and physicality comes pace and impressive technical ability, with the Lyon youngster having a 86.1% pass success rate this season.
Despite boasting great squad depth in most areas, City are vulnerable in the centre of defence as long as Vincent Kompany’s remains constantly injured. Only Mangala, a player Guardiola has shown little faith in, and the largely untested local boy Tosin Adarabioyo present immediate back-up options should John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi be unavailable – something Pep will have to deal with soon with Nico suspended for City’s next game against Leicester.
Though only 20, Diakhaby is a France under-21 international and has made 40 appearances for Lyon’s first-team, boasting plenty of experience in Ligue 1 as well as the Europa League. Chelsea are also said to be interested in the young prospect.
