Manchester City and Arsenal did battle on the pitch on Sunday afternoon and could be set for a transfer tug-of-war in the January transfer window.
An exclusive report in The Sun claims that the two clubs have both spoken to Ajax about a potential deal for highly-rated central midfielder Frenkie de Jong.
City fans have fond memories of a midfielder with the name De Jong and the 20-year-old, who has broken into the Ajax first-team fold, could be the next player of that name to arrive at the Etihad.
De Jong has only 18 months left on his contract with City and Arsenal believing they could land him for just £5million in January. Premier League rival Chelsea are also monitoring the player’s situation.
The Dutch under-21 international moved to Jong Ajax from Willem II in 2015 and won their Talent of the Season award before being moved up to the first team.
In eight Eredivisie appearances this season, four of them starts, De Jong has an impressive 90.4% pass accuracy in his midfield role and is also a good dribbler of the ball. His performances have alerted Premier League scouts with City and Arsenal now considering January bids for the youngster.
