Manchester City could lose Spanish prospect after Valencia chief scouts him on Saturday

Manchester City could face losing the impressive young right-back Pablo Maffeo after Valencia watched the on-loan player feature for Girona FC on Saturday.

Maffeo played the full 90 minutes as the City Football Group club won away at Levante, and local source Superdeporte confirmed the presence of Vicente Rodríguez, a member of the Los Che technical staff, at the Estadi Ciutat de València.

Vicente (pictured below at the game) was not only watching Maffeo, but also Girona’s attacking midfielder Portu.

Maffeo’s link to Valencia is not a new one with Superdeporte reporting in October that the high-flying La Liga club, who sit in second place behind only Barcelona, are keen on the City youngster.

20-year-old Maffeo has made headlines lately after doing an impressive job up against both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, and his stock is rising quickly on loan at Girona.

This gives Man City a dilemma, with two expensive recruits already in place at right-back in the form of Kyle Walker and Danilo, who were acquired for a combined cost of over £70million in the summer. This doesn’t rule out Maffeo of having a chance, as he is a versatile player, while Danilo is also capable of playing several roles, so there could be room in the squad for both.

But if the Spain under-21 international, who arrived at the Etihad in 2013, can’t be guaranteed regular game time by Pep Guardiola then he may feel the need to move on – and Valencia would certainly be an interesting opportunity for him.

Sergio Aguero became Manchester City’s all-time record goalscorer with his goal against Napoli.
