Manchester City fans can expect several more years of David Silva magic with the diminutive playmaker close to extending his contract, Spanish newspaper AS reported on Friday.
Silva’s representatives and Manchester City bosses held further talks in recent days and a new contract until ‘at least 2021’ is very close, ensuring that Silva remains at the Etihad Stadium beyond his 10 year anniversary, which will be in 2020.
The 31-year-old has been clear about his plans in football and he has often spoken about a return to Spain with Las Palmas late in his career. For that reason, there was speculation that he could depart the club when his current deal ends in 2019.
However, Silva believes he has three more seasons in him at Premier League level and despite having several clubs keen on signing him if talks with City didn’t pan out, he is on the verge of prolonging a glorious stay in Manchester.
The midfielder has stayed out of negotiations according to AS, with his focus entirely on fighting for trophies under Pep Guardiola and leading the Spanish team at this year’s World Cup.
Sergio Aguero became Manchester City’s all-time record goalscorer with his goal against Napoli.
