John Stones has been labelled a flop, waste of money and worse by embittered football fans or pundits in the media looking for a scapegoat since his big money move to Manchester City from Everton.
The 23-year-old from Barnsley did struggle in his first season at the Etihad, but the signs were always there that Pep Guardiola was developing him into a new Gerard Piqué or Jérôme Boateng.
Stones has been excellent this season, his intelligent passing at the back complimented by improved defending. And his performance on Wednesday night against Napoli again showed how far he has come in recent months.
John was voted City Watch Man of the Match on Twitter following a performance in which he scored and led from the back.
Twitter account Breaking The Lines has put together a compilation of Stones’ impressive display in Naples that shows both his ball-playing and defensive ability.
