Manchester City could belatedly complete the signing of Southampton left-back Ryan Bertrand in January with the Mirror reporting that Southampton are considering a sale.
The 28-year-old England international was on a shortlist of full-back targets for Pep Guardiola in the summer, but his prohibitive price tag meant City settled for one natural left-back, the now-injured Benjamin Mendy, with the versatile Danilo able to fill in.
The question now is if City want Bertrand, with his fellow England international Fabian Delph proving able in the position and several foreign targets, including Aarón Martín and Álex Grimaldo, also on the radar and younger than Bertrand.
The Saints are looking at re-signing unsettled Luke Shaw from Manchester United in January, which would clear the path for one of their better performers this season, Bertrand, to leave for Manchester City should they renew their interest.
Despite the impressive form of Fabian Delph, a challenging schedule with City still in four competitions could lead to Guardiola dipping into the market for another left-back in January, and Bertrand may prove to be more attainable than he was in the summer.
Sergio Aguero became Manchester City’s all-time record goalscorer with his goal against Napoli.
