It’s a well-known fact by now that Pep Guardiola played a key role in Manchester City beating the likes of Manchester United, Barcelona and Real Madrid to the £27million signing of Gabriel Jesus in 2016.
The young Brazilian needed little time to adjust to the hustle and bustle of the Premier League, and his numbers have been impressive – plus he’s yet to lose a game in England when involved!
Jesus gave an interview in the December 2017 issue of FourFourTwo that elaborates on just how important Guardiola was in his acquisition.
“Guardiola called me up and said I would be a very important part of his project,” the 20-year-old said.
“This obviously made me feel wanted and was a big factor in helping me pick City as my next club. There had been a lot of clubs interested in signing me at the time, but the one I felt most confident in was City.”
Guardiola wanted to meet Jesus immediately and that meant a quick trip to the training ground.
“When I landed in Manchester, I came straight to the training ground – I didn’t even go to my hotel.
“He wanted me there. It was 6pm and training had been in the morning, but Pep waited for me to arrive. I realised he’s a different kind of manager.”
The full interview with Gabriel Jesus is in the December 2017 issue of FourFourTwo, released today.
