Ilkay Gündoğan looked to be in some discomfort at the end of Manchester City’s Carabao Cup fourth round win over Wolves on Tuesday night.
The German played the full 120 minutes, quite a feat for a player who has missed much of the last year, and was seen holding his groin towards the end of extra time.
In his post-match press conference, Pep Guardiola seemed unclear what the situation was, saying Gündoğan had finished the game with “some problems” and would be looked at tomorrow.
#PEP: We need all the squad, Gundogan finished with some problems – I don’t know (how serious) – we’ll see tomorrow.

However, the birthday boy, who turned 27 on Tuesday, responded to a City fan on Instagram and suggested there is nothing to worry about. Ilkay said, “I’m well, thanks! 😊 It’s only been a long game ;)”
We’ll probably know for sure in due course if there is anything more to Gündoğan’s soreness, but the impression from the player himself is that he should be okay and was just suffering after 120 minutes in his legs.
