Manchester City have been, by some distance, the best team in the Premier League in the opening nine weeks of the season, winning eight of their nine fixtures and earning a draw in the other despite being down to ten men for much of the game.
And the superiority of Pep Guardiola’s men is shown in the official Premier League statistics, with the Blues dominating the three main goal contribution categories – Goals, Assists and Passes.
Sergio Aguero is the joint top goal scorer with Romelu Lukaku of Manchester United on 7 goals, but City have four of the top seven goal scorers, with Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling just behind Kun on 6 goals, and Leroy Sané chipping in with 7 goals.
Meanwhile, Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva are joint first on the assists charts with 6 apiece, ahead of United star Henrikh Mkhitaryan. Again though, City have four of the top assists men, with Leroy Sané (4) and Sergio Aguero (3) also on the leaderboard.
It should come as no surprise that a Pep Guardiola side dominate the passing stats, with Manchester City having the first, second and third main passers in the Premier League. You may be surprised to learn it isn’t John Stones at the top but his much-improved partner Nicolas Otamendi, who has played 770 passes this season, ahead of Fernandinho (743) in second place, and the magician David Silva (713) in third. John Stones (662) and Kevin De Bruyne (622) mean have half of the most active passers in the Premier League.
Finally, guess who has played the most through balls so far this season? That’s right, Kevin De Bruyne with 10, two ahead of Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fàbregas.
If these players can continue performing at such a level for Man City this season, there is no telling what heights Guardiola’s side can reach.
