Former Paris Saint-Germain, Tottenham and France winger David Ginola has made the bold claim that Bernardo Silva is even better than his Manchester City teammate David Silva.
During the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast on talkSPORT this morning, the 50-year-old said, “I was watching games while he was playing for Monaco and he is a top-class player.
“Let me tell you, when he is 100 per cent fit he is going to fit into this team perfectly as a playmaker.
“He is like David Silva but I reckon he is even better. I promise you. Wait and see.”
Given David Silva’s status as one of Man City’s all-time greatest players, that comment is likely to be greeted with some scepticism by most Blues – but there is no question that Bernardo Silva possesses huge quality.
The 23-year-old has featured only sporadically for City so far, but many believe that Pep Guardiola is easing the Portuguese playmaker into English football much like he did with Leroy Sané last season.
Bernardo has made 10 appearances across the Premier League and Champions League, but only two of them starts, and so far has a goal and assist to his name. A week ago, he put in a Man of the Match performance for Portugal in their 2-0 win over Switzerland, a preview of what City fans can expect in the future.
For now, it seems premature of Ginola to say Bernardo Silva is better than David Silva, but if he can perform at a similar level in the years to come, City will have a gem on their hands.
