Unlike English newspapers, Italian sports pages celebrate ‘beautiful’ Manchester City vs. Napoli tie

For many, tonight’s meeting between Manchester City and Napoli represents the coming together of Europe’s most entertaining and attacking football teams of the moment. Two of the highest scoring sides in the top European leagues, the teams compliment their goals with exquisite passing and build-up play, giving their fans a complete footballing experience each week. While some coaches, like one nearby, would gladly bore their fans to death to pick up a ‘hard-fought point’, Pep Guardiola’s philosophy is to win and entertain.

Today’s English back pages have absolutely nothing on the game, with Newcastle being put up for sale capturing the main headlines, but over in Italy there are some poetic headlines that celebrate what should be a great exhibition of football between maestros Pep Guardiola and Maurizio Sarri’s sides.

The Corriere dello Sport newspaper uses the simple headline of “Il Bello d’Europa (The Beauty of Europe)”.

Naples-based Il Mattino, meanwhile, says “The most beautiful football in Europe will light up Manchester tonight”.

The famous pink Gazzetta dello Sport newspaper goes with “Sarri vs Pep”, a minimalist headline that any football lover will understand.

Manchester City vs. Napoli doesn’t have even have a small box of coverage on today’s back pages of the Daily Telegraph, Guardian, Times, Mirror, Express, Daily Star or The Sun. The only Champions League coverage in the English newspapers is reserved for Harry Kane ahead of Tottenham’s trip to Real Madrid tonight…
